About Pedagogy of Partnership

How you learn is what you learn
The Pedagogy of Partnership (PoP) provides cutting edge professional development to 21st century educators who are leading and teaching the Jews of tomorrow. PoP’s comprehensive model enables learners of all ages to develop the habits of wonder, empathy and responsibility toward others and toward Torah. It also teaches learners concrete tools to improve their communication and interpretive skills and be better able to seek understanding, work collaboratively and engage with Torah as an ongoing source of Jewish wisdom and instruction.

About the Fellowship

We all want our students to develop the skills to engage deeply with both text and with one another. Unfortunately, many schools don't yet have the language, strategies, and skills to design and support this quality of engagement across disciplines and as a hallmark of a Jewish day school education. The Pedagogy of Partnership (PoP) will train a team of educators in four day schools to empower students in grades 3-12 to lift their text learning off the page and into their hearts and minds. A grant from the AVI CHAI, Kohelet, and Mayberg Foundations is underwriting a two year fellowship for four day schools to learn and implement the research-based PoP teaching and learning approach. This two-year fellowship will offer a cohort of educators from each of the four schools summertime, immersive professional development institutes, onsite and distance coaching during the school year, and access to a suite of PoP teaching materials.

Through the core PoP learning practices of Listening and Articulating, Wondering and Focusing, and Challenging and Supporting, educators will learn to guide students to internalize foundational attitudes and skills necessary for building enduring relationships with one another and with Torah as well as other core disciplines. In so doing, teachers and students alike will expand their experiences of learning, deepen their intellectual engagement and elevate this engagement into the realms of the ethical and spiritual.

Please read the Program Description and Criteria before applying. Applications are due February 9, 2018.  Please contact Allison Cook ( with any questions about the Fellowship.
